The main thing that I learned throughout my internship was how to be versatile. I had to learn how to do certain tasks all while still being watchful at the front desk. The phone rang a lot, so I had plenty opportunities to gain and exhibit customer service skills. Another thing that I found interesting was that we had a lot of interesting people walk through our door. Sometimes people would stop by and just ask us about public relations.
I learned that the field of public relations is a fast-paced profession. You have to be attentive and very motivated. I wouldn’t recommend the field for a lazy person. I believe that is definitely for a person who likes to be challenged and put to the test. It is a great feeling to be able to handle multiple assignments and get them done in a timely manner. I really felt accomplished after the experienced.
I also learned that you have to be flexible. Sometimes one project that you are completing could get pushed back because of a more important one that just pops up. You have to be aware of this and ready for whatever may arise.
