I am currently a communications intern at Make-A-Wish Mid-South and recently just became a brand ambassador for Fluent representing Macy’s. Make-A-Wish Mid-South is a non-profit organization and I am an unpaid intern. Macy’s will be a paid internship and is only a six-week program. My internship with Macy’s begins on Monday. I started my internship at Make-A-Wish in August and it ends in December. I am in the office on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m.-11 a.m. and on Fridays from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. I have my own office and work independently with supervision from the Community Outreach Director Miranda Harbor. I am the only male in the office. While interning here, I have designed and updated newsletters, the Make-A-Wish website, and the Facebook event page. I have also updated their contact lists and sent out media/press releases to the local media. I sit in on developmental meetings every Monday. If they need sponsors for any events, I contact other organizations/places to sponsor those events. Any other tasks that Miranda has and cannot complete, I am there to assist her. I have learned a lot on design technique and programs that companies may use for communication efforts. Today, there is a Wish-Kid photo shoot that I have the opportunity to stop by and will do that before I go to class at 11 a.m. I feel that I am learning enough at my internship to prepare me for a career, but it is not too much to where it becomes overwhelming or distracting from school and work.
