I am just now beginning my journey at the Happiest Place on Earth, aka Disney World, where I will be spending the next six months working in merchandise at Main Street on Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park. My internship is part of the Disney College Program which was established in 1983 to allow students from across the world to live and work at the Walt Disney World Resort. Since the inception of the program, thousands of students from across the globe have completed this prestigious program. Many individuals that have completed this program have eventually gained management positions within the company or within other Fortune 100 companies.
Throughout the course of my program, I will not only be working at the parks, but I will also be participating in seminars hosted by some of Disney’s top executives and alumni of the program. These programs will allow me to expand my networking opportunities and hopefully pave the path for a future within the company, which has always been my dream job.
I have only been here since Monday, but over the past three days, I have been amazed by the level of perfection Disney works to attain in everything they do. During a housing meeting today, strobe lights were flashing, stars were twinkling on the ceiling, and classic Disney songs were playing in the background. What other company, besides Disney, puts that much level of excitement into something as simple as a housing information meeting?
While I have little news to share on my internship as of now, my journey will begin on Friday as I complete Traditions. Traditions is a required class for all new cast members where are they taught the history and legacy of Disney as well as ways to keep the Disney experience magical for all guests. On Saturday, I will train at Disney University, and my journey begins on Sunday at Magic Kingdom where I will receive my costume for my role and receive my first day of on the job training.
Even though I have just arrived, I can already tell this is going to be a magical time of my life!
