At my internship now, we are starting to gear up and get ready for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. Fred’s is a sponsor for Making Strides and has been for quite some time. They have put me on the committee to help out with events. One of the events that is coming up in which I have been helping a lot in is the United Way Sample Sale. All of our vendors donate items such as lawn and garden items, home entertainment furniture, pet supplies and food, etc. I have been helping to set up the sale upstairs and will also be helping out on the days that the sale will go on.
Recently, my former internship supervisor was fired. So, it has kind of been my job to help the new person understand some of the things we work with and how we do things. It is weird that I’m helping someone that I work under to understand her role and responsibilities.
The more I work in this setting the more I realize how much I don’t want to work in an office or corporate environment. I tweeted about this as well. The reason I feel this way is because I can’t just sit still for 8-9 hours a day. Working in a cubicle makes me feel like I’m caged or something. I’ve always imagined myself working at an advertising agency in which the environment is free and I guess not as serious. I’m not saying advertising agencies aren’t serious, but they seem a lot more fun than working at a corporate office. It could just be my experience right now, seeing as everyone here is much older than me and I feel like a little kid around them. I am glad I’m doing this internship right now because I feel like I’m not just learning more about myself career wise, but also as a person.
