Not only did my internship with Farmhouse Marketing provide me with opportunity to try amazing food from local restaurants, it also gave me a taste of what the advertising industry would be like.
Working with a small agency gave me the ability to have a complete hands-on experience. Everything my immediate supervisor attended, I attended as well. I was present on various initial client meetings as well as follow up meetings. I was given the invaluable chance to just be a sponge in a real-world environment. If I wasn’t at a new business meeting, I was probably somewhere working photography shoots. It was pretty amazing. My supervisor, Ben Fant, made sure that I gained as much out of everything I did as I possibly could. There was never a dull moment.
After I went through a trial period of just watching and absorbing, I was able to contribute my own work. I wrote and edited press releases for different clients such as the restaurant ink! and Biking Bill. I also completed demographic and market research for our client Grace Community Church in Cordova. I was also in charge of reviewing client’s websites while they were in the developmental stages. This consisted of trying out and proofreading EVERY section and aspect of a website.
Working at Farmhouse not only equipped me with so much knowledge but it also exposed me other business people. While attending the client meetings, representatives of the respective business were impressed to see me spending my summer “following Ben around” as they called it. It was a wonderful experience that provided an additional bonus of being able to network.
