Since starting the internship I have only been able to work at WUMR once a week. The “radiothon” is by far the busiest week of the year at WUMR, so Hardin wanted us to help out there as much as possible. WUMR is a non-profit station and almost strictly volunteer based, which makes the “radiothon” very important to keep the station running.
WUMR serves as a way to help students like me gain valuable experience in broadcast journalism and also actual airtime. I really enjoyed this week because I was able to be on air three times, discussing topics such as the FIFA World Cup and the upcoming NBA Draft. I also was able to take phone calls of people trying to donate to our station. This was a very rewarding experience because we get to talk to our listeners and see how much they really love the station and the programs it provides.
