I was fortunate enough to land a second internship later in the summer time for the fall semester. I currently serve as a sports intern for WREG News Channel 3. I work under sports anchors Glenn Carver and Mike Ceide. My schedule is pretty lenient, with most of my work assignments coming on the weekend. My main responsibilities include covering Friday night football with various photographers, taking notes on big plays and player and team names so that once I return to the studio around 9 p.m. I can help the anchors put together highlights for that night’s broadcast.
I also get the chance to cover University Memphis football and basketball along with some coverage of the Memphis Grizzlies. I have even had the privilege of covering assignments where I had to interviews Memphis Tigers’ basketball coach Josh Pastner, Grizzlies Point Guard Mike Conley and CBS college basketball analyst Greg Anthony.
My future career aspirations are to work in television and this opportunity has helped me tremendously thus far in gaining knowledge and experience in my young career. A couple important things I have learned thus far to make sure to be accurate and as detailed as possible. For example when putting together interviews and highlights the more material you have, the better that package will be on the broadcast. The second most important thing I have learned so far is that you must be confident. At 22, I’m just starting out in this business, but that doesn’t matter, I have to act like I’ve been in the game for decades like everyone else, and to me that is something that over time I am getting better at. All in all, I couldn’t ask for a better opportunity for experience.
