One of the biggest accomplishments for me during my summer internship at KAIT-8 in Jonesboro, AR , was a moment when I received the opportunity to interview the family of a little girl who had just lost her mom, dad, and little sister in a car accident. I felt so honored to give the family my condolences and to offer my support in helping them raise money for the little girl. Friends of the family coordinated a fundraising carwash for the little girl. Signs were made, flyers were passed out, and emails were blasted out to spread the word about the fundraising event.
The city came out and donated. There were even people who just stopped by to donate money without getting their vehicles washed. That moment in time, took me away from just being an intern, and it really put me in a reporter’s shoes. Being at the fundraising event, and seeing this little girl’s face light up with a smile every time someone pulled up gave me a sense of connectivity with the story. I even received the opportunity to write the online content for this story. The aforementioned memorable moment at my internship conditioned me to control my emotions and focus on the task of a reporter, such as getting the underline story itself.
