My name is Maggie Burnett and I am currently an intern for ALSAC/St. Jude on the Event Marketing Team. The duties for this job include helping with fundraising events at St. Jude, helping other team members with their daily tasks or helping wherever I am needed. I am also a brand ambassador for St. Jude, which means I give hospital tours to visitors. This type of work is exactly what I have always pictured myself doing. I have always loved event planning and how so many little details must come together to make an event seamless.
During my time at the University of Memphis, I have participated in several fundraising events for St. Jude and through those events I learned a lot about the hospital. However, now that I have been given the opportunity to work closely with the hospital I have found such a deeper passion for the hospital’s mission and I am so proud to be a part of the team that helps raise the money that finds the cures.
During my internship I hope to learn exactly what it is like to work on an events team. Throughout my semester at ALSAC, I have meetings set up with different members of the team to see how each part differs. I am always encouraged to attend meetings with both the Event Marketing team as well as ALSAC-wide meetings with the CEO, Rick Shadyac. I am so thankful to be apart of a group that encourages intern involvement and ideas because it encourages me to work to my full potential. So far, this internship has been a great confirmation that I am getting a degree in the right field and proactively working toward my goal to have a career in nonprofit organizations.
