While at my intern I have learned that it’s best to have a short and simple stand up than a long detailed one. In a standup I have tried to give as much information as possible because I didn't want my stand up to miss out on important information but that's not the case. According to reporters your stand up is nothing but a tease of your follow up script. It’s not only better for viewers to comprehend but it’s better for you to memorize. My main problem with stand ups was that I rushed through my lines so that I wouldn’t forget it while my viewers didn’t understand a word I said. As my intern went on my stand-ups got shorter and I talk slower not only making my words sound smoother but also not rehearsed.
When writing your story it also depends on where you place your stand-up, some place it at the beginning, middle or end, it just depends on what you say! It’s very rare to see a stand up at the end unless it's live or it's a story that's updating viewers on new information! It’s very important where you put a standup because it can really throw off a story. Stand-ups add a realistic feel to your story. It helps viewers know your view of this story. I've learned stand-ups are like a kick stand for your story but always remember a stand-up is not the actually story so less the better!
