My name is Alexandria Nicole Gary, and I am a junior Journalism (Public Relations) major at the University of Memphis. This semester will actually be my second semester at the University of Memphis. Within a semester I have managed to make the right connection, which led to me receive an internship opportunity. I currently am interning with the American Heart Association, Greater Memphis chapter. I started my internship back in November and some of my job responsibilities where small yet tedious and those were to create the branding for social media (Facebook/twitter banners, Christmas postcards etc.)
Now my job responsibilities have increased with me continuing to maintain social media, as well, as helping with event planning and media publicity. For instance, we have the annual Heart Ball, Go Red for Women, and Heart Month all coming up in the month of February, and I am helping with media pitches and press releases. Every day is something different with the American Heart Association. I spend three days a week with the American Heart Association and a typical day for me is nothing but dull. There is always something to do in the office. Whether it is prepare for the next event or coming up with new and creative ideas for a prospective event. The reason I choose to intern with the American Heart Association was to gain experience with non-profits. While interning with the American Heart Association is been nothing but hands on experience, going to do media calls has to be the best part in the internship. I have enjoyed my time thus far and I am sure I will continue to enjoy the American Heart Association. I will keep you guys updated on my success.
